Well i may not have any kids of my own because i am 17 years old. But, my mom was a foster parent and had many different types of childeren stay with her mostly teenagers. She always found that a job was the always a good hobby because it taught them a skill that maybe they could use later on in life and also gave them responibilty. It takes up alot of there time too and makes them earn the stuff they have. If you buy your kid only the things he NEEDS, dont buy him his first car dont pay his insurance. If he does well maybe give him a helping hand once in a while. Also dont pay a kid for doing chors in my opinion this ruins them, only doing things fer money, not just because they respect there parents and care about thier responsibilitys.

Crochet is easy to learn from a person (don't try learning from a book). I also like quilting and if you can find a discount fabric store it's not very expensive. I also read a lot, go to: half.com or amazon.com to get good deals on used books.

Reading (go to the library), consider a book club, writing, walking, knitting, sewing, gardening, drawing, making things such as bird houses, picture frames or other woodworking. Taking pictures with a regular camers (buy your film and have it developed at Costco or similar store - much cheaper), get involved in a sport with a community recreation center. Some people join others for cards, such as bridge (you could learn it), playing table games (I grew up doing this).

I do this for a company.
They provide material............Or you can get some from thrift store.......Or your church can donate money if you give what you make to your church patrons..........Here goes
Take a Big Brown Paper Bag and trace on it with a pencil what looks like a good Christmas Stocking....(size of a big boot)
Now take a yard of material(red, green, blue, etc)and fold it in half

Use straight pins and pin down the stocking going through both pieces of material..........The pins will be on top of the material.
Now cut out with scissors the stocking pattern...>>>later>>>
1 yard of material will yield 6 Christmas stockings.
You can then sew the stockings by using any color thread. (If no sewing machine) it will just take a llittle longer by hand.....Sew them only 1/2 " from edge...You can double sew also for strength..This is LATER, the fun part.
DECORATE your stocking any way you like......A Christmas theme, a teenager theme, a baby stocking using items a baby won't chew off and choke if a parent isn't watching) like cut out from other material designs for XMAS OR ? ,for other ages.
Maybe use sticky foam, spongy cutouts like cars, etc.
The Company I help do this for give these to familes in need at Christmas time, and the Company fills the stockings with lots of goodies.....Maybe your friends, or church friends can start . Now would be a good time....Xmas will be here b/4 you know it!!!
I almost forgot>>>>>>>don't forget to add material for the side of the stocking for hanging when you sew it>>>>>>
