Depends on where you live, but so long as it gets warm/hot during the summer Elephant Ears are excellent for conditions like that. They can live in anything from regular water to ponds.

They come in different shades of Green REd and Purple and get large, leaves up to 12 inches.

It is impossible to overwater an Elephant ear.

You need to mix some peat moss and black top soil in with that clay or everything you plant will rot at the root. If you plant trees and shrubs be sure to mound them instead of digging a deep hole, dig a four to eight inch hole and mound the dirt up about a foot.

I have the same problem. What really loves water is mint and members of the mint family. You can tell because they have square stems. There are so many varieties and they smell soooo good. Many herbs are members. My basil is one. Mints come in apple, pineapple, orange, chocolate, almost any scent you like. They have added benefits too. You can grow peppermint, pinch off a bunch of it and let it sit in cool water for awhile. Store in your fridge and you have the best drink when youre hot. The menthol instantly cools your whole body down. In my books, they recommend planting mint where your water faucet drips, they love it so much.

well, you should probably be doing something to mend your soil like adding humous(peat moss)or something organic to change the PH also, but there are lots of water-loving plants to choose from. Go to your nearest nursey that sells water garden plants such as lizard's tail, arrowhead, umbrella palms, cannas also do great! just consider the sun requirements of your area when asking at the nursery for help!good luck!
