Out of all of its possible locations which place on earth is its most probible location?

No scifi crazy answers, no aliens, no retarded answers please. If Atlantis is an actual historical place then where do you think it is.

I personally think that it is either on the island of Cyprus or that the Atlantians were actually Phoneacians if the legend is true. But I'm not sure, it could all be a cleaver wise tale.

Where oh where are you Atlantis? Since Plato, philosophers, adventurers, poets, you and I have been searching for the answer.

East of the Pillars of Hercules, or was it West of the Pillars of Hercules, scholars can not decide how to interpret Plato. Those Pillars being the coast of Spain near Gibraltar, or the South coast of Greece).

So, either in the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean (Why is called that, couldn't it be because....).

Maybe it just lies deep inside our collective imagination, this curiosity of ours, that made us who we are now.

Ah, I LOVE these Atlantis questions. First thing I want to point out is Plato said Atlantis was "opposite" the Pillars of Hercules. Some people think this means outside, in the Atlantic, which would probably place it near the Azores Islands, which could be the remnants (mountaintops) of Atlantis. Some say around Bermuda or Bahamas, saying the Bimini road is evidence of Atlantean habitation. Some have also said Antarctica, because at that time it was not the frozen wasteland it is now but a pretty mild climate. Others have even gone as far to say "opposite" meant the other side of the world, specifically in the area of the South China Sea or Sea of Japan. These are shallow waters, and I'll explain this significance in a minute. Ever heard of the Yonaguni Pyramids off of Yonaguni Island in Japan? Definately man made, yet they would have to predate any known civilization because the last time this area was above water was the Ice Age. If Plato's date for Atlantis is correct, it would have existed around the time of the last Ice Age, which supports the myth that it was swallowed by the sea. The ice sheets of North America melted so rapidly that it couldn't support the melted water, so it broke. HUGE amounts of water filled the oceans, so much that the world's oceans rose as much as 100 meters literally overnight. So, in my opinion, Atlantis was located somewhere around the South China Sea. It was underwater pretty much by the next day, along with the many settlements that are now underwater from this same cataclysmic flood. Those pyramids off Yonaguni? I think they are either Atlantean or some other civilization that existed then that we know nothing about. It is all very interesting and I would suggest looking deeper into it. This all only scrathes the surface of all the theories. Hope this is insightful.

it is believed to be an ancient myth that those who disappeared in the Bermuda triangle were actually sent into Atlantis by a way of a magik so powerful it was believed to the greatest ever.

My Research on the project (four years and counting) Showed that there was a deep crater in the center of what they would believe to be the Bermuda triangle. Now, underwater volcanoes are plentiful on that site so logically if the entire island of Atlantis actually sunk into the depths of the sea and the core of the earth, then it would have been covered by now.

I myself have never traveled to the Bermuda triangle but will be venturing there within the next year when i can get funding. Not many people believe in this "Myth" and wouldn't put money to it. But Yes i believe that through Plato's description and the shifting of the continents it is either underneath the southern tip of Africa or it is in the Bermuda triangle. Remember the world started with one super continent, Pangaea. Then it shifted and so i believe Atlantis has shifted as well.

I saw a documental a few months ago, about atlantis, theres this expert, cant' remember the name, but his theory is that what plato wrote about was actually central south america, somewere on the eastern part. Most of the archeological wonders of south america have not been studied, due to lack of economic resources, politics etc, but according to what I remember in the documental, this guy's theory was that peoples of south america and europe had traded or traveled back and forth long before columbus, that there was a highly civilized people in south america, the documental showed satellite maps of the site, just as described by plato as being a round island like city surrounded by water, with a vast canal that led to the sea, basically that it was not an island, but an inland city, there are proven achiological sites in mexico and peru, where most of the pre columbians built fortified cities, surrounded by water, like a moat, the documental was really great, providing what I thought was theory proven by facts and actual archiological research, I also showed several other "sites" dating to almost 1500 years, where iron and cooper has been found, used as tools and even construction elements, such as door hinges and like nuts and bolts, long thought to be modern age inventions, I wish I could remember the name, but you may want to search in the discovery channels web site,,,,

It has more or less been proved that due to some cataclysmic events the continent of Atlantis sunk under the surface and an ocean formed in its place. This is the Atlantic Ocean (as even the name suggests).

There are innumerable mentions in old Greek mythology/history of Atlanteans imparting knowledge to the Greeks when they realized that their continent is going to sink.

Read Ages in Chaos and Earth in Upheavel by I Velikovsky to understand the matter in detail.

It is a moral tale fashioned purely to symbolise that ALL civilisations fail.

Fortunately it belongs in the same basket as the Yeti and Bermuda Triangle. These tales are meant to insight thought and postulation....To evoke emotive responses and ground a person to think logically before acting upon an idea.

Somewhere along the way some idiot decided they were going to search for it. The Romans and Greeks have tales and morals for these quests too (ironic isn't it?). One is 'The quest for fire' (or the impossible task), but hey...you can't stop someone from looking for it if they really want to now can you?

beyond the straits of Gibraltar according to the story plato had heard and read from a pillor. where that is depends on weither your heading into the meddatarine or out into the atlantic ocean from the meddatarine.
if you belive platos version then under the atlantic ocean
if you belive in plate shifts then the antartic islands is possible or the american islands that broke off from the europien continent and moved rapidly out of sight of eastern europe.
