No. The PS3 will be REVERSE COMPATIBLE, meaning it can play PS1 and PS2 games. The earlier generation consoles cannot play games for the later ones, though. It has to do with the way the games are coded and what sort of graphics engine decodes the video display.

no the technolighy for the ps3 games is not on the ps2!!
