What did you think? Could there be any truth to this version? Apparently it's supposed to be real!?

Actually it's been out for a couple of years now or more. Pretty controversial.

It was a pretty heavy handed parody of Gone with the Wind. And, although I appreciate the point of view, it was not a very good/well written book. And, yes it was controversial when it came out.

Also, the parts of the book, when the main character (I forget her name) is in Washington with her Senator... that is based on historical facts. There used to be many more black Senators after reconstruction, unfortunately that is no longer the case.

I read it some years ago. It was released in 2001, and I read it soon afterwards....being the big GWTW fan I am. I read it, and I didn't think it was that good. And for the most part I think at least the Amazon crowd agrees with me, its average rating is two and a half stars out of 214 reviews.

I'm confused by your statement "Could there be any truth to this version? Apparently it's supposed to be real!?" Since Gone With the Wind is a work of fiction, and The Wind Done Gone is a work of fiction...how could either one be "real." Readers have a choice whether or not to accept the story of Wind Done Gone over and above that of Gone With The Wind...or they can look at it is a book designed to sell copies because of the supposed controversy. Just like readers can have discernment and reject SCARLETT by Alexandra Ripley as having "happened." There are some sequels that just shouldn't exist.

Scarlett was the sequel to Gone With the Wind. I'm a huge buff and unless this just came out last week, I've never heard of it. I read both books and of course, the first one is the best.
