Because America has not been able to determine what a common denominator is for a standard of life. In order to be poor enough to qualify you must be too poor to subsist in this country. The Middle Class is relegated to a hand to mouth existence in order to avoid becoming that poor but which never gives them the chance to truly thrive. If there were national health care and a broader range of services in this country I don't think the classes would be so disparate.

It seems that way because it is true. With money you can always make money. Without money someone (government) is willing to give you money. Although this is a problem for the working class people of America, I can say I am greatfull for working class, because I am not rich and if there were no middle class then I would be poor. That is the brighter side that I try to focus on. Also in the US there is always a potential to become rich, the question is what are you willing to give up to make that happen. For some people their time is more important than money, so they would rather be middle class and have more time than rich and not have time to enjoy what they have. Middle class in America is complaining more, because cost of living is so high, we no longer have time, because just to stay middle class we have to work a lot of overtime or have more than one jobs. It is unfortunate for us that someone is climbing on our backs in order to be rich and remain rich. Most middle class people is moving out of their community to cheaper places around the world to maintain some sort of decent living. But never-the less until I become rich, I will always be greatfull for the middle class.

That is the way of the world. There is no middle class. Either you are rich or you are poor. I'd rather be poor because I am rich in Knowledge, Love, Kindness and I have the choice to want and dream. Those who are rich with cash can be poor with love.

Middle-class is where you don't want to be. Once you are there, you are stuck with paying taxes, interests on loans and credit cards. You certainly don't want to downgrade yourself to the lower-class as you have way too many obligations & liabilities. To upgrade to higher-class would seem impossible unless you hit a jackpot or something. The rich & the poor don't pay taxes. The middle-class do. Most governments in the world that practive free enterprise would encourage middle-class base to be broadened, hence increasing the revenue.

Because Rich people have money and friends (republicans) that see to it they can protect their assets and minimize their taxes. Hence Rich people that don't work pay a 15% tax rate on capital gains.
Poor people have friends (Democrats) that want to give them money and not make them carry any of the load.
The only persons left to pay the bills are responsible working working people like me. My tax rate is 42%. Somebody has to pay the bills and as I worked my way up the ladder from being poor I found out that person somebody was me.
Why don't you ask me how I feel about a FLAT tax rate and then ask me if I think I should pay for babies born between little girls and boys that think BC is the only qualification for having sex.

I guess that's what they mean when they say life's not fair. It's the middle class that gets the shaft because they earn too much to qualify for assistance, but don't make enough to get all the tax breaks. That's just the way it is I guess.

the middle class only have one way to go and that's up! (at least in theory) the middle class largely consists of people who finished school a while back, have a few years of work experience, homes to pay for, kids to raise and parents that are aging. they have no choice but to get things done!! no one has time for them either. traditionally whomever falls into that class (which is said to be shrinking) don't qualify for anything because they have the ability to do it for themselves. the people in the middle change but the fact that the burden falls on them seems to be a fact of life. eventually they will get to be in the aging parent category and look back on all their hard work...though in this day and age social security won't be an option. but, that is a whole other topic!!

It is what happens when you have the socialists that reward the poor for staying that way and the law of supply and demand rewards the ones who create or control the supply that people demand. It is us poor buggers who are either not smart enough, not brave enough, or do not have any good ideas to sell but are hard working to support the lazy.
