The Sharp Wizard ($30-60 depending on model) is a good choice for only taking notes and other light-use tasks and organization. It's the very essentials of a PDA. Calendar, Contacts, Planner with Alarms, Clock, and Notes are the main things it can do. If you need the ability to add applications, get a used Palm or a Z22.

Take's notes... no PDA is good for taking extensive notes unless you get a keyboard to go with it.

I am studying to be an EMT. The PDA is perfect for Vital signs, write them quick and you get a time stamp.

If all you are doing is taking little notes, get a Zire, I personally am hooked on Palms....being on my 3rd one now in about 6 years. My current is wireless and I can surf on it and I use it for reading eBooks. Besides studying.

Define your needs better and I think you will get better answers.

if you jus need to take notes a better cheaper and more handy alternative to a pda would be buying a 256mb or 512mb mp3player almost all have the ability to record voice direct to the drive so you can listen to later jus like a little dictaphone plus it plays music...whenever you are buying something new to you or on the cutting edge of technology first ask yourself why you need the device..what you will use it for and will it do all the tasks you expect ..so many folks took off running to buy their IPOD like good little consumers spending a boatload of cash..only to realize they dont own enough music to fill the device...or that the music they have on their puter or cd rack doesnt jive with the player and are lost on how to marry all the data so it can be used...before you feed your player full of songs..feed your head findout what you are buying and is it what you need..the internet makes finding info or help a nobrainer...i have a Iriver T30 holds 512mb which is plenty of music for on the go...it synchs effortlessly into Windows Media Player (look for the wmp plays for sure logo if it doesnt have the plays for sure logo dont bother) i also have a Palm TX that is bluetooth and wifi ready..uses secured digital flash cards for memory..u can buy the secured cards everywhere (256mb 512mb 1gig 2gig and even 4 gig) these cards hold tons of info...if you are not gonna need to access the web or run windows office programs then a pda is probably not what you really need

Well kissing and groping is my favorite type of PDA....

Ok, now that thats all over with... just for a cheap one to take notes? Well... hm... the Palm Z22 is going for under $100 these days and it does ok for notes. Now I wouldn't reccomend it for notes for school or anything... heck, I wouldn't reccomend any PDA for mass note taking... its too cumbersome and hard to write so much so fast on their little write pad.

PDA is broken to two primary OSes:
Palm and Windows Mobile OS (PocketPC/CE)

The best priced decent Handheld would be the Dell Axim (cost per parts are the lowest) or Palm since you are just using to take notes

HP IPAQ models are considered the best of the breed (though not necessarily the best parts) as well as their higher cost/parts ratio

Get a Palm Z22 ..... small, compact, inexpensive.

About $95, shirt pocket size, colour screen.
Enough space to have a lot of ebooks, addresses, games, and such on it, even pictures.

Does all the basics, a few small bells and whistles, and quite a long time on each battery charge.
