Widescreen. You get to see the whole shot the director wanted you to see. Fullscreen chops off the left and right edges, a bit, and you sometimes miss things.

100% widescreen.
Brief anecdote: I worked in a video store where customers would constantly complain about accidentally getting the widescreen version, thinking the bottom and top of the movie had been cut off from the entire film.
So I'd guess full screen appeals to people who really aren't into movies or know much about them.
