Rock involves singing (holding notes, etc.) and playing actual instruments. Now, it does take talent and a quick brain to do impromptu or freestyle rapping, but in concert, if you have the words memorized, then you're just speaking and posturing.

its not that all rap sux..... Look at the influence some of the better rap artists have had on "rock" music.....We just look at it from the standpoint of actually creating, producing and making something from something other than a turntable and a sound board. There are some talented rappers out there, and there are some talented rockers out there that have bridged that gap. I'm not trying to piss away someones ambitions, Just want to weed out the posers

Because rock involves actually playing an instrument, a strong voice (for singing or even screaming), writing music (not sampling the music of others, or having producers add sounds, like rap). Also, rock is much less profane than rap, and not every CD comes with a warning label on it, like rap. You could play 10 rap songs, and I guarantee that 6 will have sampled someone else's work, including rock. Oh, and rap-rock sucks.

and you can't make up lyrics to a rock song at the top of your head. Rockstars have talent too. I guess that most of rap songs are about the same thing. Also, me, i hate rap because the artist are so stupid. Yeah, they'll pay thousands, no millions of dollars on stupid grills and they don't even donate a single penny to charity?

ok, talent to talk fast, and improvise maybe, but i personally don't like rap very much... where's the music, melody and harmony in rap?....i like rock music, but not all the range of rock music, i mean i like the kind with music e.g classic rock, alternative or grunge not the screaming cookie monster type of hardcore death metal rock...i like r&b, which it actually has melody and harmony, but rap, i wouldn't even consider it music....well most artists nowdays suck anyway, that's just my opinion. Oh yeah ! the profanity on rap...and the sampling...i almost forgot about that!!! yeah rappers have talent to degrade others.

Rock involves instruments. Drums, guitars, bass guitars, and in some cases (progressive) an entire orchestra.

Rap involves a computer-generated beat and lyrics that the so called "artist" more than likely didn't even write him or herself.

Ever hear about an instrumental rap song? Didn't think so.

Good rap takes talent, but it isn't music. It's more like poetry and theater combined.
