Characins all breed the same, with just a few exceptions. It is best to spawn them by separating the males and females and then feeding them heavily on live foods until the females grow fat and the males become more colorful.

Spawning usually takes place in 48 hours to a few days. The eggs of most characins are quite sticky and will then adhere to the foliage as they are dropped. Remove the parents as soon as they have completed spawning or the parents might eat the eggs.

They have babies all the time. I've got tetras and guppies in the same tank and I see new babies at least once every two weeks. I have seperated them and I have also left them in the tank. I don't know if they eat their babies, but I've got so many now I've lost count. I've had my tank since June 2005 and started with 6 fish and now I've got 30 just with reproduction.
