I have been schooled at both public and private schools and I can tell you first hand that my grades were higher in private school (with uniforms) and I did concentrate more on my studies because I was not concerned at all in other students' clothing, obviously because they were all the same....Why can't the US educational system pass a law stating all children must wear uniforms. Our students will concentrate more on their studies rather than worrying about what other students are wearing and teasing ones who can't afford $100 for a pair of sneakers or $150 for a pair of jeans..I had 5 blue sweaters and 4 pair of pants all for under $100 for all 9 pieces and wore them for 3 years.

I wish that schools would do this, but it will never happen. Some parents would argue that having children wear uniforms violates their rights to individuality. I think that a lot of students would have grades go up, and parents would have more money for other things if uniforms were required.

As you said, you had 5 sweaters and 4 pairs of pants. That is pleanty for a school week. That is what my son had at private school and on the days that were 'dress down' he still opted to wear his uniform. It was easier for him.

I think they should. I think one problem is that there are those who couldn't afford them....that's an arguement I've heard anyway. I don't see what the big deal is in uniforms. I went to public school and would've loved to have had uniforms. You don't have to think about what you're wearing each day. It just seems a lot simpler to me. People say clothes is a way of expressing yourself. Well, yes it is, but school is for getting an education, not a fashion show. A school day is like 7 hours, you have the rest of the day, weekends, holidays and the summer to express yourself through fashion. Not only that, but if you're on a sports team, you wear a uniform, don't you? A lot of private schools wear uniforms and I don't think those kids are affected negatively by having to wear them. In other countries, uniforms are the norm for all schools.

I went to private schools, including high school, wearing uniforms,,, yes a lot of the kids really did'nt have the issue of who had the coolest cloth,,, we were all wearing the same uniform, but peer pressure and "clicks" are going to be in any school, uniformed or not, I liked the uniformed because I did'nt worry about what I was going to wear the next day, as far as study performance,, there was a lot of people that didnt do that well with grades, but I see your point,,,school performance, in my opinion starts at home, then school and a combination of both, including the community's involvement in school programs and govt action to inprove schooling,,,,

No. I hate uniforms. The problem is that people care to much about what other people think about them. With the grades, I don't think it's because of the uniforms. My school doesn't have them and I'm a GATE student.

School is supposed to prepare you for society, and we all know that's how society is! So no, I don't think we should get back to wearing uniforms. When I was at school, my clothes were even more cheap than yours, but I had no problem with being different! That's who I was (and still am) and I don't need a school uniform to hide it, I like it!

Yes, I'm in favour of school uniforms for public schools. I agree with your reasoning. There is also the fact that it would make it easier to identify outsiders in the school.

BTW, I think teachers should also have to wear the uniform

I agree with you so much. I always wondered about that for years and years. I know it will help these kids. What about the poor kids who stay home sometimes because of clothing being laughed at and what about the kids who get teased and feel down about their clothes. It is horrible how know one pushes that for the kids. Clothes are getting more and more costlier for the parents so they need to wakeup and do somthing
