I just don't like it. It's not because I'm white, I'm just more of a country music/rocknroll fan. But honestly...I kind of like Chamillionaire. =)

I am getting old, and some old folks like music to be melodious in some way. Blues is, Jazz, country, but rap is usually kind of hard edged. Maybe it is the age old rounding off process that mellows us over the years and makes us kind of like to blend in a little.
I don't dislike rap, I just don't like it as much as I like jazz or folk singing. And it seems to me, thinking and writing about it, that rap is a folk singing music that belongs at least partly in the folk singing category. Rap often is a form of story telling.
As for white folks and rap, well, where I come from, California, black music and black people who invented that music are an excepted and important part of the heart of America.

Thank you for stereotyping! This is why the world is a social hell hole! I know it goes both ways, but this stupid stereotype crap needs to stop from EVERYONE.

What do I, as a living human being with the same emotions and interal organs as you, have against rap? I believe most mainstream rap requires no real talent.

All you need to have is a drum machine. All of those stupid lame beats, stupid hooks and lyrics that barely rhyme (the only reason they do is becuase the pronouciation of the word has been fabricated.) It's hardly music so why would I pollute myself with it? Now, listen to me I know some rap is good like Jay z, kayne, Snoop, tupac, fort minor, and eminem. Thats because they actually have passion into their songs and its not just a way to make money.

Besides I know tons of white people that like rap.

Your question is racist. Race does not dictate behavior, just as it does not dictate musical tastes.

But I am white, and I do dislike rap music because: the rhythms are very basic and simplistic, and the lyrics are banal, idiotic, and seem to be written specifically for simple-minded teenagers.

Also: an enormous number or rappers sing "songs" about how tough their lives were growing up, and how hard it was living in ghetto areas. So now that they're multi-millionaires, why don't they try to make the ghetto a better place to live? Why don't they use their money to raise the standard of living in places like that? The only explaination that I can come up with is that they are posers.

The fact that the majority of rap music sings about sex, drugs etc..I mean I don't mean to come across as close minded cause I m really not there are quite a few songs by rappers I like but for the most part I find rap degrading to women.

It's fine apart from its unoriginality and lack of creativity. Also, there doesn't seem to be one that isn't a reincarnation of an old song from way back with some mindless idiot in a bandanna yelling over the top of someone else's music.
Oh, plus there's the whole 'bitches and hoes' thing, which basically wipes out everything that women have been fighting for since Victorian times.
Did I forget to mention the glorification of violence, street crime and drugs?
Plus, there seems to be some idea that rappers should dress like a mentally retarded Dennis the Menace cartoon, and expect to be treated with respect. Fat chance!
Other than that, I've no problem with rap.
Oh that's right: the music is just plain terrible.

I don't understand why you said that, do you know how many *white* people try to be rappers, and be black because of rap? I don't mind rap, but its not my type of music.. I like being able to sing with my music.. but there are a lot of rap songs that I like.

The lyrics, the purported disrespect.

Hmm, wasn't there once a song put out be rap artists called "Kop Killers"? How "encouraging" is *that*?

I don't like it because the beat is the same..over and over and over and the lyrics are stupid most of the time..and it's usually sung in monotone which makes it totally boring. It wouldn't be music to me if I were purple...I'm also tired of the loud thumping speakers that rattle my windows when the cars drive by playing it...Now..I feel better.
