Sometimes when I sit in a public place next to someone of a different ethnicity than me, that person would move a seat down, a seat on the other side of someone else, or in a totally different area. Now I'm sure there are people out there telling me to get over it, but that normally is a response from people who actually are guilty of the action or who really don't know what to say. Anyway, I find this narrowminded act very offensive because I'm not one to be rude, closeminded, dangerous or any other negative adjective I (or you) can think of. Why do people do that?

Because they're the ones who have the problem with it, Sweetness, not you. It is uncomfortable and embarrassing when it happens. Just have sympathy for the idiot who left your scintillating company for the emptiness of another seat. The world needs less idiots and some how we keep adding more.

IT relies upon. Public Transportation is paid for by skill of all and distinctive, even fats people. Seats at the prompt are not great because maximum folk dont favor them, yet there are by no skill any seats large sufficient for large people. I vacation the subway and there are handicapped seats which state that they are to easily accept as a lot as handicapped people. In 20 years I have hardly considered everyone supply up a seat. On a 2 dollar bus vacation, i should be generous. On one thousand dollar airplane vacation, perhaps a lot less so, yet when it takes position some times get over it, you'll stay. and doubtless the fats human being will instruct to be a large human being inspite of each thing.

I have it happen to me irrespective of ethnicity (guys with newspapers on trains are the worst).
It's called snobbery (Either that or you smell, but probably not...).
I find it annoying,... probably comes from the whole "don't intrude on my personal space attitude" and no it's not something you should get over; you're not the one being rude. It's their issue they should be the ones to get over it.
Hey if you're up to something confrontational go and sit next to them a second time and ask them why they moved away (less confrontational would be to use a sociology survey excuse). Trust me they'll be more embarassed then you.

It has happened to me too. I have over the years learned not to even flinch when people do silly things like that. I don't acknowledge them or their action, I chalk it up to their stupidity and go on with my life. My mom told me once to never let someone ruin my day. And I don't.

Of course, I'd like to be able to dismiss it and say "more room for me!", but it actually is very hurtful. I don't think that the people who do this realize how truly offensive it is - or they probably do and just don't care.

I've wondered this myself because I've had it happen to me but I think maybe whoever is moving just feels uncomfortable for whatever reason and you have to look at is as just their problem and not take it personally although that's not that easy to do.

Maybe it's because they just do not like sitting so close to people. It has happened to me and at first I thought i had an Oder but I didn't so I figured that they just do not like the closeness.

I havent had that happen, but I've been called and suspected a terrorist based on nothing more than my name. I havent gotten over that. I think judging based on race is ridiculous and unacceptable. *sigh* I sympathize...
I think people are just afraid or they dont understand.

It's not an ethnicity thing, it's simply that no one wants to be around you.
