I am a friendly person and I used to have alot of friends but as I got older I realize that most of these friendships had ulterior motives. So I had to break them off. I still talk to these people just casually.
my family doesnot live close by what do i do to overcome the loneliness?

The moron who mention alcohol and drugs is the lonely one. Your situation is part of life. You will find a way. Some people never get time to be alone while others are alone to much. I dont know how old you are but i THINK you need a lover. One who cares about you. Not hard to find.

The first thing you can do is stop whining. Do volunteer work. Help the homeless. Join a nature club.......something productive. It is all up to you. Also, you may want to take a look at yourself and assess why so many "friends" had ulterior motives.......perhaps you need to do some serious soul searching.

I agree with the volunteer work idea. Also, if you work (which I am sure you do) you can say hi to a co worker in the break room or during lunch. If they say hello back, well, pick a topic, but leave it an open ended statement and get their feed back. If it is something you two have in common go from there. You can also chat on-line with people from your area and possibly find someone to hang out with that way. *******DO NOT MEET SOMEONE ON-LINE IN A PRIVATE PLACE!!****** Sorry, that is just the parent in me coming out. If you like music, you can also go to a club and try striking up a conversation with someone. Relax, have fun, and be yourself!

hey i recently went through this where i moved to a new town knew no-one left all my old friends or whom I thought were friends behind..

The best thing to do is find something u enjoy doing if u don't get out there and do something u will lose your self confidence
If it has already started to dwindle then get out there now it is so much easier to start sumfin new with a bit o confidence
u will meet new people through this who will in turn introduce u to new people and yada yada

Do some volunteer work at a nursing home or soup kitchen. It will make you feel good about yourself and you will be helping those less fortunate than yourself.

join something you like doing and meet people with the same interest or join a gym or whatever to keep yourself occupied and in the process you'll meet new people.
