When my back is aching, from either working out or doing strenuous work such as wood chopping, I like it when my girlfriend rubs tiger balm or icy hot or something like that into my back. Taking care of him like that also can help release endorphins to help minimize the pain that he feels.

back rub is good with any kind of flex-all, icy hot kinda cream, then one of those patches they sell now, they work really good. the cheap ones work just as good, i like the equate brand from walmart. ibuprofen for pain if he hasn't taken anything. a hot bath with teatree oil and lavender will help. if you don't want to buy the patch you can put old fashioned uncooked rice in an old sock, tie the end, heat it in the micro for 1 1/2-2min. and place on sore muscles, this can be reheated and used several times and the moist heat it provides helps alot!!

Advil or Aleeve should do the trick for the sore muscles (make sure he ain't allergic to NSAIDs like asprin, ibuprofen (advil), etc.).

I have had sore muscles myself from cutting and busting up 8 truck loads of wood in one weekend!

Then if he likes a brew or wine, give him some of that---alcohol is one of hte best muscle relaxer's on the planet!
