Situation: A Male and woman choose to have sex. Woman is impregnated. At this point, only the woman get's a 2nd chance to renig on her decision to risk becomming a parent. If she aborts, she's legally and finacially free of all the responsibilities of parenthood forever. If she keeps it, he keeps it. He's 1/2 financially responsible for life. That's why we now have to put our SSN on everything so the Feds can track "deadbeat dads" who don't want to pay for their children.
To afford equal protection under the law, shouldn't the male be given the opportunity to "abort" his parental rights. This way, both genders have control over their financial and parenthood futures. Essentially, what I'm asking is if a woman gets a 2nd chance to say "I don't want to be a parent" shouldn't the male get the same treatment.
Obviously, this is not considering rape/incest situations. The only difference really in a virtual abortion is the fetus survives.

You're forgetting one major factor: He would still owe her for the damage to her body, the 9 months of pregnancy, etc.. Afterall, he participated in the act that created the child too.
BTW, a lot of mother's accept forfeiture of parental rights by the fathers. My older sister did that. The father surrendered all rights to the child and she agreed not to hold him financially accountable. It's an actual legal document/agreement.

There are different answers to this question depending on whether or not the girl talks it over with the guy.
I think both parties are responsible for their actions, so both parties should pay the consequences of their actions. If a child is conceived, the woman should talk it over with her partner about what they feel is best for their future and that of their child, which is when the male gets a chance to convince the female to either keep or abort the fetus. This way, even if the woman decides to keep the child, the guy will have at least had the chance to talk it over with the girl and decide the circumstances under which he'll be willing to keep the child. In this situation, since both parties have had the chance to compromise, I DON'T think that men should get the 'right' of virtual abortions.
Of course, it's a different situation if the woman chooses not to inform the male of her pregnancy until it's too late to abort it. In this case, since the male didn't exactly get a choice in the matter, I DO think that they should get the right of virtual abortions.

Every man has the option to terminate thier parental rights. IF they choose to do so they are on longer financially responsible for the child but it also means that they do not EVER get visitation or any other rights over the child. Even if the mother should be found unfit or pass away.

He has a right. It's called a condom.
PS--Cerwenna, I don't know where you live, but where I live the only way a father can terminate his parental rights is if there is someone else willing to adopt the child and take on the role as father. I have seen it many times in a courtroom. Funny though, it's always the dad's that are behind in child support that want it.

No because a Man doesn't have to carry around a baby for nine months or have flesh torn during the process. Also, for this option to exist women would have to be given to option to have a post-labor abortion to put the responsibility of the baby solely on the father's shoulders.
Don't have sex unless your ready to either be a father or pay child-support, preferably you wait for the first one.
Not to give you bad advice but...You can sometimes convince a judge that your religion forbids medical testing, but you'd likely have to become Amish.

I believe that yes a man should, however it's going to take some VERY brave and resourceful lawyers and statesmen to make something like that happen. unfortunately right now courts more often than not side with the mothers on everything, fathers have very little rights, but that is slowly changing over time..so someday men MAY have that right, but i don't see it happening in my lifetime.

An interesting, if controversial concept. Unfortunately, there's about 1,000 years of common law to overcome on that one.

Men can choose to sign away their rights to the child, but that still doesn't exclude them from child support. I see your point, but I don't agree with you.
