Why does my turtle keep turning the lights on and off?

My pet box turtle keeps flickering the lights whenever I'm in the room. It's hurting my eyes, and I really want him to stop. Whenever I run over to get him, he beats me with a baseball bat. What should I do to make him stop flickering the lights?
