So I finally saw "Napoleon Dynamite" on DVD last night. I wanted to see what everyone was always talking about. Frankly, I didn't get it. I think I smiled three times or so, but never laughed. There were many slow parts with no dialogue; for those I felt like I could just fast forward through them and not miss anything.
So what am I missing? Why do people love this movie?

Movie Lessons 101: How to make a cult classic...
1) make a bad movie, bad as in not very grossing but catchy to those who hate to follow mainstream
2)market everything from said movie and put it on a T-shirt that sells in a store that appeals to those who don't follow mainstream
3) once the shirts make back money lost in production of movie, relase on DVD with special features to make more money from the now cult that follows the mainstream they have created

I totally agree with you. I thought this movie was THE DUMBEST movie ever. I can't figure out why people like it though.

I couldn't get into it either, I think I watched 10 minutes. I thought it was a waste of time, and didn't understand what everyone was going on about either.

the masses of 'individuals' wanted to support an 'indie movie' that they thought authority would not approve of, but they were wrong and stupid for thinking that. that movie sucks and gives a bad name to the rebelious spirit that has defined american youth for decades.

It was so boring, I fell asleep watching it. So I guess I can't help you. But different people just find different things funny.

My co-workers told me it was the funniest movie ever, I'm with you I don't see what they were talking about. I think I chuckled once.

to most people, it's so stupid, it's funny. to me, it's funny because i can see my life being like that and it's so scary it's funny.
