Your car battery does not have nearly enough stored energy to supply that much load. A typical car battery is around 70 ampere-hours, which is 840 watt-hours. If you want 2500 watts for more than a few minutes, you need a generator.
You must be certain, when using a generator, that there is no possibility of sending power back out over the power line. This is ordinarily done by having transfer switches so that the critical circuits can be switched either to the generator or to the power line. Large home supply stores sell transfer switches especially designed for this purpose; they are not cheap. The job can also be done using standard SPDT switches, suitably mounted and wired, for considerably less money.

I would guess about 80% efficiency.

So 2500W is about 250 amps
For 12 hours you would need a 3000 amp hour battery

whatever it is, it's terribly inefficient. i've done the same thing tho, just not that long.
