A good shellacking preserves a fine piece for sure. In the end it is all relative.

No they should never be shellacked because with time, the shellac cracks.
However, a visit to your local surgery clinic can keep those cracks from forming.
Of course, there is always formaldehyde!

I would like to see them "chiseled" , "sculpted" sounds good as well.
I will save the shellacking for the next guy I play bocce ball with.
