Its the Security of the Nation. Which at this point I think is a joke. We cant even keep poor Mexicans from walking over or digging under the boarder but yet we are supposed to stop rich organized terrorist...come on now. And Bush to dumb to realize that any smart terrorist that wanted into america could just go to mexico and walk his dumbas* right across. Also how much security did we have when Katrina hit???? NONE Bush was too busy smoking the good bush to figure out if he should adress that as a emergency. I wonder how many terrorist just floated in on a fishing boat after the storm was over and the water was still high enough to bring you inland. But its all good I may not have homeland security but i sure have home security and its called a semi automatic 12 gauge with a scope and slugs

I'm sure you can look up the definition in Wikipedia, but I'll add a little more.
My father was in the Federal Government and often shared stories about some of the nonsense that the public believes and drives elected officials crazy.
During the Suez Canal crisis, the U.S.A. was in a bind. They watched their allies invade Egypt and surrounds because Egypt had nationalized (meaning: "government stole") the Suez Canal.

To the surprise of everyone, the U.S.A. told their allies to get the heck out of there, NOW!

We looked stupid. And the public let the government know it.

Then the President told our own allies that if they didn't get out of the region, we'd send the fleet out of Italy (we have fleet ships posted there, with Italy's permission), and make them leave!

This was turning against our own allies? Was the U.S.A. going crazy? Was the President trying to start WWIII? The whole world was against our actions save the Islamic world, which cheered.

Then we actually sent the fleet in. Before they got there, our allies left. Israel actually had to see the fleet land before they got the idea, but they soon joined the other allies in leaving.

My father found out the story some time later. While Russia was yelling and screaming that they would defend Egypt, they really had no interest. They weren't going to lift a finger.

China had already loaded the planes and were getting set to take off. If China had gotten in, or gotten wind of what we were doing, they would have sped up just to get a toe-hold in the region. Our allies had given them the excuse and they were taking it.

And once in, we never would have gotten China out. The world map would look a lot different if it weren't for that one person who told the U.S.A. government what was happening in China.

National security means not giving our enemies (or sometimes even our allies) things they can use against us. Period. When people sacrifice national security for "freedom of speech to tell U.S.A. military secrets or intelligence secrets", they risk your safety, my safety, my daughter's safety, and all our lives are put more at risk.

All to satisfy a little "I'm going to hurt the government because they don't do what I want!"

It's called sedition if you try to undermine our government with words. It's called treason if you succeed.

Some of us still have enough backbone to call a traitor a traitor. I hope you do, too.

regardless of what uniformed closed minded people believe, national security is not just a term the government uses to get away with what they want. national security is an idea that our nation the ideals that this country were founded, the safety of the people within this country, and the land itself of this country is safe from those who would wish to circumvent, overthrow, or do harm to said country.

Unfortunately, not much right at the moment. But the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp is trying to get the government to recognize the need for it again.

Once upon a time, it meant peace for American citizens.
