I currently have a sedan and he is getting too big. I thought about a mini van but no roll down window in back. For an SUV, I'd need steps for him to actually get in. I just need some ideas from others who have had the same problem or something similar.

it's actually bad for dogs to put their heads out the windows. dust and bigger particles crash onto theit eyes, which is not good.

I have three dogs that fit in my Toyota Matrix comfortably ranging from 55lb to 95lb. They back seat folds flat so they can enter from the side doors or the back hatch. I can roll the windows down for them and lock the buttons so they don't get out. Also, the window on the hatch can open separately from the door itself so I can put their leashes back on before I let them out. This is an awesome car for dogs and great on gas too... about 30-35mpg, but I drive like a sissy.

IT IS BEST TO CAGE YOU DOG IN ANY VEHICDLE OR USE BELTS MADE FOR DOGS JUST LIKE PASSENGERS HAVE. IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE DOGS CAN GO THRU THE WINDSHELD OR OUT THE SIDE WINDOWS AND BE KILLED.
IT IS NOT GOOD TO LET DOGS HANG OUT THE WINDOWS AS THE WIND IS HARD ON THEIR EYES. ASK ANY MOTORCYCLELIST ABOUT OBJECTS HITTING THEIR FACE

Umm, are you trying to blind him!? You should not let your dog hang his head out the window. If a tiny speck flies into his eye at the speed of a moving vehicle, it would most likely blind him. Also, dogs have been known to jump out, or attempt to jump out of windows and hang themselves halfway out the window.
