Babies get all the water they need in breast milk or formula. They don't need any extra until they start eating solid foods which should be around 6 months.

A *newborn* should *never* have water. Water is okay once baby starts solids (not before 6 months old). They don't *need* it until about 12-18 months old, when they are nursing a lot less (human milk contains plenty of water). Between those ages, it is a personal decision.

A newborn can drink water since the day they are born. Doctors never prevent you from giving your baby water. My sons doctor suggested that 2 oz of water per day is alright. Especially if the baby is eating way to much formula.

Babies do get all the water they need in either the formula or breastmilk. Older children and adults need other sources of fluids because most of what we take in as nourishment is solid or dry.
Unless your pediatrican suggests it for a specific reason - don't. Especially if you are breast feeding - you don't want to fill the babys' tummy with water (which has no nutrient content) and delay or decrease the babys' feeding. If they don't get the right amount of breast milk or formula on a daily basis, you can get a malnourished, very sickly baby.

I recently went through this with my daughter she is now 17 months. Back in the days they use to give sugar water to babies about once or twice per week. This has changed over the years my doctor told me not to give her any water in the first year. He said she could develop water on her brain. Later I found out that they do not advise women to give water to their children because of crack cocaine they state that when crack came on the scene women were selling the formula and watering it down I got this information from the wic office. At any rate I gave her about 4 ounces of water once a month and she liked it.

My daughters pediatrician said that giving water to a baby can mess up their electrolytes. Formula or breastmilk is 80% water and if they are getting enough of that they really don't need water. It's ok to give them water after 6 months. I do give my daughter (she's 9 months) some water especially when we are outside and it's hot, also to get her used to the sippy cup. At this age a little won't hurt them as long as they are getting enough breastmilk or formula.

no longer a actual strong theory. formula and breast milk provide nutrients water ought to by no potential provide them. regardless of the indisputable fact that formula promises the benefits water supplies us. So the perfect determination is formula or breast milk. on the grounds that all of us needs the perfect for his or her toddler water would not be the perfect determination for a newborn. regardless of the indisputable fact that, once the toddler receives older and is on a commonplace feeding time table and eating solids then grant it. extremely after the toddler has eaten toddler nutrients. it ought to help with washing the sugars off of the gums.

The doctors tell you that they get enough water in their formula, and not to give them it untill later, but its really up to you... a little water never hurt my baby when she would get the hick ups.

they should be getting enough water with the formula and/or breast milk.. it is OK to give it to then now but make sure you boil it for at least 5 minutes and be very careful because the water is a lot thinner than formula/breast milk and it is very easy for them to choke..
