They will eat any other fish they can in a tank! We have ours with a red tailed shark, and they have survived together for years. Barbs are very agressive.

Cichlids are predators and very territorial. They come from Africa, Central and South America and parts of Asia. You can also find them in southern Texas. The size varies depending on the breed, age, and the care that they get. Most cichlids are between 2 and 12 inches long full grown. Cichlids are very good parents and will defend their babies to the death. The two most common fish in this group are Oscars and angelfish.

Tinfoil barbs can grow as large as 13 inches and will feed on smaller fish. Barbs have teeth but not the intelligence of a cichlid.

In order to know if your cichlids and tinfoil barbs will get along, I have to know the size of all of the fish, and the breed of the cichlids. Also, if you have a large tank, they will get along better. Cichlids like rocks and plants to hide in. A lot of times they will stay by their rock, and chase other fish away from it. Make sure that you never add apple snails to your tank. Cichlids will eat them.

Tinfoil Barbs are not cichlids!! More likely the cichlids will eat the barbs or kill them.

Well, maybe not eat them, but they may nibble and attack enough to cause the cichlids demise.
Most barbs are pretty aggressive, especially towards cichlids.
If the tank is big enough and the fish are few enough, you might get lucky that they will leave each other alone.

Good Luck.

fish are funny- I have a tiger barb that doesnt bother a thing, then I have a red tailed shark that was so mean he ate the tails off of my silver dollar and other fish. He got so bad I had to take him out of a 55 gallon tank just because he is so mean. Needless to say he isnt mean anymore in his new 1 gallon tank sitting on the kitchen counter with his snail buddy, but when i got him I bought another one as well and it doesnt bother any of the fish. It is real docile and minds its own business. then I have heard chichlids will kill fish. I think they all have their own personalities and your best bet would just be to monitor them and see how they treat each other. I have 2 parrot fish, they chase the fish around but do more head butting of my paleko because they like to hide under the log. Plus they cant do any damage because of their odd shaped lips, they really cant pick. good luck

I'd be more worried about your cichlids eating the barbs, as, depending on what kind of cichlid you have, he will quickly outgrow the barbs.

Also, depending on your species of cichlid, it may prefer high pH - some require pH up to 8.2.

there is no damage in the barbs eating the cichlid pellets. as long as they are in a position to slot of their mouths for them to devour it, they are going to be superb. appears like your barbs purely did not like numerous different food you've been giving them! T
