The current official price for usa is $499 for the standard and $599 for the deluxe model per the press release. http://www.us.playstation.com/News/PressReleases/341

Sony took over the gaming wars back when the playstation (launch price $299.99) was launched. Maintained its lead with PS2( again with a launch price $299.99) . But can they do it a 3rd time with the PS3(60HDD $599.99 20HDD $499.99) This isn't the highest price for a console that honor goes to 5th generation 3DO at $699.99 which was ironically beaten by the more affordable PS1. btw this is now the 7th gen.

Some say that the PS3 is a computer and not a console. That computer gamers willing pay $1500 in order to play the lastest and more graphic hungry games, why not the same for a console with similiar power and no patches or vid card upgrades. PS3 will offer blu ray disc with a storage of 25gb. That means no more dual disc paks and large game content. bigger soundtracks and video cutscenes. so what do you think?

Good luck finding a Blu Ray player alone for less than $700. The technology alone makes this a good price.

The 3DO is a bad comparision, with the backwards compatability back to Ps1 the game base for the Ps3 is already huge. The 3D0 never had much of anything worth playing.

I gotta say though.....no dual shock SUCKS, and that tilt a controller looks dumb. hopefully there will be a 3rd party controller that will somehow manage a rumble feature.

Releasing November 17th, 2006, the PS3 will launch with two separate hardware SKUs, the higher-end of which costing $599. In the interview, Guillemot expresses his concern that the high price could potentially create problems in the following months after the release for Sony.

Ubisoft is set to release new titles, alongside established franchises, for all three next-generation consoles such as Assassin's Creed for the PS3 and Red Steel for Nintendo Wii. As a developer for next-generation gaming, the French company expects 40 million consoles to be sold in the US in 2008.

If you think $300 - $600 +games was to much, then yes. If I wanted a PS3 that badly and knew I was saving my money to get it, I would buy the games now and wait several months to get the hardware.(console)lower price))

i think what there banking on is there fan base. there;s alot of ps fans out there waiting and willing to pay that price and they think with using the new blu ray disc and TRUE HD 1080p that they will earn new gamers. so i think they might do aight. might loose there spot as #1 selling game system but wont loose any money.

Wow... a Sony stooge already. Sony knows they are on the verge of losing their last market. They are already out of the portable audio market. They are losing the digital video, camera market and now they are about to lose the gaming market.

Blu ray will never take off. HD-DVD is going to win out. Leave to Sony to do another betamax

The price will surely be too much. There are too many gaming systems to choose from for the price to be so high.

heck yea its gonna be too high, but a ton of people are gonna buy it just for that reason, sure it has a blu ray drive or w/e, but id buy a 360 before i bought a ps3
