I love animals and would like to have a career involving them. I do not want to be a vet. My question is, what are some other decent paying jobs with animals? I'd prefer to work with mammals. I am getting a business degree but would be willing to take coursework in animal care.

I do some volunteer work with a local big cat rescue organization and they employ some folks full time to run the office, manage the finances - you know, the business end of things. It's not a really high paying job, but decent and you get to work with tigers, leopards, etc. - how cool is that? There are more and more of these rescue places around, as more people try to keep tigers as pets (NOT a good idea!), so check out your local area for possibilities. Good luck!

Getting a DVM (Doctorate of Veterinary drugs) does no longer propose you ought to calm down in a hospital and practice drugs in a touch hospital. there is the militia preparation drugs or doing analyze, the authorities doing analyze, there is also cellular veterinary drugs (which i did not locate out about until eventually like my 2d 12 months of vet college). A cellular vet can paintings with small or great animals going from homestead to homestead or farm to farm charging exorbitant quantities of money doing a similar belongings you ought to do in a hospital for far less money. you ought to nicely be an animal behaviorist, like Cesar Milan. he's no longer a vet yet he works with canines on an primary foundation. operating in a zoo is likewise a mind-blowing option. you'll get to paintings with a exceptional type of unique animals on an primary foundation. also, animal coach is solid, human beings will continuously favor help preparation their pets. you ought to also be a breeder yet i suggestions a minimum of having some type of anatomical/nutritional/clinical history because there are a decision of breeders available with little or no awareness. actually the sky is the decrease and also you in simple terms ought to parent out what section can make you the happiest. a minimum of i'd propose going to varsity to get a level in possibly animal technological expertise. because then no count what occupation you decide on you've something to construct off of.

Why don't you talk to a college counselor? Try Zoology. Depends on where you live, you can get a degree in animal science and possibly become part of the rescue units that rescues animals from abuse, ASPCA. ( don't know their pay though).
