As in, if I wanted to say the square root of x. How could I type it without, you know, just saying it?

This is usually typed as:

x ^ 0.5

Roots are written as the decimal equivalent of 1/d where d is the desired root.

as in square root of 4 = 4^1/2

I write square root in the following way

x^(.5)

sqrt ( x)

x^(1/2)

Sqr { Sqr means square root}

if I knew how to put the radical symbol I would tell but I I don't know

a common abbreviation is sqrt.

So "the square root of 2" would be sqrt(2).

There are also key codes for the computer that will produce the square root symbol (√). I use a mac, so I don't know the PC code, but the mac code is simply "alt-v."
