Objectively assess your strengths & weaknesses, then work harder at being better at your weaknesses.
1) personality
2) intelligence
3) expectations
4) friendliness
5) helpfulness
6) hygiene & grooming
In general, be the best you can be at whatever challenge comes along. If you are an introvert, make a rule to say hello and smile to everyone in the room. If you aren't that smart, read at least 1 non-fiction per month. If you expect too much of yourself, then back off. If someone asks for directions, show them instead of just pointing. Always be clean & immaculately groomed.
Lastly, be available, maybe even tutor in the subject you are strongest at.

By not trying to be. Better try to be your best self. Be the best you can be mentally, physically, spiritually. I think there is nothing more attractive in a person than a healthy body, a good sense of humor, intelligence and spirituality (goodness). Goodness is more important than education, money or intelligence. If you are sincere, and truly love everyone, you will be so attractive, no one will be able to resist you. (Just the ones you wouldn't want around you, anyway). But, by being YOUR best self, the effect even changes THEM.

popular is when everyone likes you.... so think what you can do to have more people like you. talk to a lot of people and always be friendly. if that doesnt work than its not worth being.
