Good will or the salvation army even some thrift stores. Sometimes pawn shops will take smaller items.

Join the marvelous group "Freecycle"~!!
The group has branches in every area of the USA.
It was formed to help reduce the waste in landfills.
Go to http://www.freecycle.org
Look for your state and then your local branch.
Join it.
Then list all the items you have to offer.
Your subject line should be
OFFER: (list the item)( zipcode or name of your city)
For each offer you post, you can post a WANTED~!
I learned about this two months ago.
Gave away three pc monitors (1 not working), a small wardrobe, coffee table, bag of yarn,
two keyboards, books and a working lawn mower.
It helped so much to give away these things
as I was moving and did not want to bring them along.
What I got in return was a gorgeous like new rocker and tons of bubble wrap to use for my china.
No offer is too big or too small.
Working order or not working is also okay.
You can also list a "free Sale" for members in your area.
Give it a try. If there are several branches in your area, join them all.
:-)

A great way to get rid of unwanted stuff is to set it off to the side of the road. Put a fake price tag on it, don't let people know that you just want to get rid of it for free. They will just assume something is wrong with the things and you may be accused of dumping off stuff and get charged. Instead by putting on a price , someone will think its great stuff and probably steal it in the middle of the night thinking " what a great deal!" Believe in the human race!!!

I agree with some of the early responders- Salvation Army and Good Will- they may come and pick your stuff.
There may be other charities wanting your stuff. Check with the battered women's shelters near you. AmVets(American Vets) call for donations. We have donated stuff to local half-way houses for young kids, homeless and recovering alcoholics.
If all else fails, you could have a yard sale and sell it to whomever you want at whatever price you want.

The Salvos will take certain things. Try put some in the garbage bin & get a skipper as we would in Australia. Maybe have a garage sale as other people are always interested in other peoples stuff. Give it away for FREE.

There are many places where you can donate unued or unwanted goods. Try registering at Freecycle http://www.freecycle.org/finder. List what you want to give away and people will come right to your door and take it away. What a great way to keep stuff out of our landfills and help someone along the way. Good luck to you
