I really like to watch crime tv shows like Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, American Justice and FBI Files. I enjoy these shows because I like seeing that there is justice in this country. However, both my boyfriend and sister say that people who watch these shows too much become severely paranoid about crimes happening to themselves. Does anyone know if there is evidence/studies to back this up? I would say that I am very cautious and pay attention to my surroundings, but not necessarily paranoid.

I say no, they don't make you more paranoid. I work in this field and as a woman, I think they make us realize that bad things can happen to everybody. Usually each show will show or explain something that may help us out later in life. Wheather it's a way to get away from someone, to keep on the lookout, or just to watch our own "space" when in public.

lol I do the same thing! I watch a lot of shows on the ID channel. And if I'm home alone and walk into a dark room, I get a little scared for a few seconds and can almost actually feel like someone is in the room. I know I'm being paranoid and no one is in the house but me. but it sure feels real at the time. I even imagine foot steps behind me sometimes if I'm walking down the stairs. i feel like Im about to get grabbed.

I'm watching Cold Case Files right now. I have watched these types of programs for years and I'm not paranoid. I think I like to watch them because I am always curious about what human beings are capable of. I don't think I'm as paranoid as I am aware!

I watch all of the above and read about true crime aswell. I love the forensic science aspect of it. My husband gets upset because he says All I watch is death. I do not believe these types of shows make you paranoid. I would sooner watch reality than anything.

I had to tell my husband to stop watching "America's Most Wanted". It made me paranoid.
