I bit my lip (on the inside) twice a few days ago. Now I have 2 cold sores and they hurt bad. I know about the 'swishing salt water' but it has not worked. Thanks.

Thank you to all who answerd. I found out its not cold sores but canker sores as some suggested that you can get from biting the inside of your mouth. Its NOT herpes lol -->this is what i found

{Small and out-of-sight, but painful, persistent and annoying. That's what canker sores, also called aphthous ulcers (aphthae), are for people who experience them. These shallow ulcers in your mouth can make eating and talking uncomfortable. They may occur on your tongue, on your soft palate, inside your cheeks or lips, and at the base of your gums.

Canker sores differ from cold sores in that they occur on the internal soft tissues of your mouth and aren't contagious. Conversely, cold sores almost always start out on the lips and don't often spread to the soft tissues of your mouth. In addition, cold sores are caused by a form of the herpes virus, making them extremely contagious.}

There used to be a Medicine called "Allum" that you could get at the drug store. It would make it numb so that it wouldn't hurt, and it also helped it heal.

I haven't seen it in awhile, but I am sure they still make it.. Good luck. I would check Walgreens' or Osco..

I'm not sure what you have are really cold sores (cold sores are a caused by a virus and I don't think you can even get a canker sore from biting yourself), but one thing I've found very helpful when I get a canker sore is to swish some liquid antacid (like Maalox) around the cold sore for awhile and/or apply a cotton pad soaked with the liquid antacid up against it. Works pretty well at getting rid of them faster and I think it's even more effective than the topical pain relievers (like Ambusol).

Cold sores will usually go away on their own within a few days. However, if they are severe or cause you embarrassment or discomfort, cold sores can be treated. Treatment may include topical creams or ointments or sometimes antiviral medicines (such as acyclovir or famciclovir). Treatment may lessen the duration of the cold sores by only 1 to 2 days, but can help soothe painful blisters or other uncomfortable symptoms.

If the sore is inside your mouth, it is called a canker sore and you need different medications for that.

Cold sores are a form of the Herpes virus, so they can not be cured. The virus remains in your body and becomes active when your immune system is lowered- like when you have a cold (hence the name), or when you injure your mouth, as you did.

Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. If you experience frequent bouts, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication to treat cold sores. Using a medication may shorten the duration of cold sores and decrease your pain.

If it is true cold sores, you would feel a "tingle" on your lips as they were appearing. Ever since a kind Physician noticed one on my lips, He told me to put a sunscreen on every day twice a day, and I've never had one since. Hope it helps.

tea tree oil should bring pain relief and help the healing
A tiny amount - less than a drop - applied directly to the spot can help, a few drops in water is an effective mouthwash and gargle
