I'm assuming you've seen the Kurosawa films already.

1. When the Last Sword is Drawn

2. Zatoichi (with a blind samurai)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363226/

3. Ghost Dog -the way of the Samurai
(this is not really a samurai film, and was made in 1999, but I had to include it because i love it so much. It captures the essence of the samurai code)

4. Versus (really cool one, mixes zombies and samurais)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275773/

5. Kill Bill I and Sin City also have Samurai references

Hey BreadWinner,

Try "Tasogare Seibei" (Twilight Samurai) with Hiroyuki Sanada. That's the young guy who was in "The Last Samurai". "Twilight Samurai is a good movie. Check it here:

Check out the latest "Zatôichi", movie. The 2003 movie has (Beat) Takeshi Kitano as the blind swordsman. It's kind of a strange movie, but it's still pretty good. Check it here:

I hope that you enjoy them.

Any film by Akira Kurosawa, especially "Yojimbo". He is conidered one of the most original and influential film directors ever. Many of his plots were taken and reworked as other films i.e. "Yojimbo" was remade as "Last Man Standing" and "Shichinin no samurai" as our movie "The Magnificent Seven", of course this doesn't fall under your 'RECENT' category, but they're still the best.
