Starts with a headache then you pass out from lack of oxygen. Get fresh air quick IF you think you are in an oxygen deficient atmosphere. We used carbon dioxide to quick freeze pipes to do a valve replacement. Sometimes if this task is done in the right conditions one of us gets giggly.

Not to be confused with CO ( Carbon Monoxide) Carbon Monoxide poison actually requires placement in a hyperbaric chamber to force oxygen back into the blood cells.

There are regions sometimes located around active volcanoes where carbon dioxide fills dips in the ground.

Small children and animals whose heads fall below the level of concentrated CO2 will faint from lack of oxygen (mysteriously, as you cannot see the CO2 under normal conditions) and die soon thereafter.

I can only really guess from what I know about biology. I assume that because your lungs are used to having carbon dioxide in them (which you normally exhale), nothing nearly as serious as carbon monoxide poisoning would occur, as carbon dioxide isn't suddenly going to start an atypical chemical reaction in your lungs. Carbon monoxide, on the other hand, competes with oxygen for attachment to hemoglobin (a protein in blood which brings oxygen with it to other parts of your body).

The problem with inhaling carbon dioxide lies in the issue of not getting enough oxygen through to your blood cells. Oxygen is an important part of glycolysis (your cell's digestive system in a way). Without it, your body's cells can't make the energy it needs to run it's various processes. So, my guess is it would be much like drowning. Eventually, your brain would begin its built in process for lack of oxygen, namely, a blackout. From there, if oxygen supply weren't restored, the rest of your body would begin to shut down.

Note that the brain can last for around 6 minutes without oxygen before irreversible damage begins to occur.

Carbon Dioxide is a sluggish poison. enable's say you had to kill somebody via filling a room crammed with dry ice. The Carbon Dioxide could fill the room, the guy could expend each and every of the oxygen, bypass out, and die a painless dying. that is somewhat humane. they could desire to try this to prisoners on dying row.

You will eventually pass out...for lack of oxygen. Carbon Dioxcide (c2o2) is in fact the gas you EXHALE. So if you breathe in too much c2o2 you will merely pass out for lack of oxygen.

You will hyperventilate. This may cause your fingers to tingle and you can feel dizzy, even faint.

Slow down your breathing and breath through your nose to help stop hyperventilation.
