well last time i tried this was back in 1995, and it was with a can of green giant Sweetcorn, a piece of sticky backed plastic (three cheers for blue peter :p) a small bit of hosepipe and, disgustingly enough, an empty bottle of (forgive me, ye of the branch floridian persuasion) ranch dressing. of course, having tried this a month ago with a newer can of the same, it didnt work at all i'm afraid...

2 sticks of celery sellotaped together to form a tube, stick a finger in one end and then blow over the other end to create the whistle noise, moving your finger in and out to vary the pitch,

I have WAY too much spare time

or you could hollow out a carrot and make holes along the length, like a flute.

suppose a parsnip would work just as well as the carrot.

dont think a turnip would be useful, or a grape for that matter.

I really do have far too much spare time.
