Hey everyone- I got my mom to look into a lease to buy! Now I need ideas on how to lower my boarding payments. I want to keep a horse at this one farm, but board is $425 a month! Mom said that if I can minimize the boarding payments, then I can get a horse! I said I would be able to pay for vet and farrier- which I can do. As I said in my other post, I have lots of horse experience- riding, training, and care. I have proven to my parents that I am responsible enough to own my own horse, which is why they are looking to get me one. So does anyone have any advice on how to lower monthly board payments? Thanks to all who reply!

find a different stable. that is too much for boarding.

or you can muck out stalls etcetera, but that gets boring and is low pay.
one thing a lot of people i know do is get paid for excercising trail horses, like ones who dont get ridden very often, they need exercise or theyll go sour. people pay for it. ask around, and you will find one eventually.

I currently board 2 horses, but I do rough board where I do all the care myself, buy the grain, hay, and shavings feed and clean, this may be an option for you as well. Also, check if you can help with cleaning other stalls for the barn, and maybe help with feeding at dinner time after school starts back up and help with barn chores during the weekend as well. Another idea you may consider if they may need someone to give the other horses daily grooming and if they need the padocks cleaned out. Good luck!!

Offer to work as a stable hand (mucking stalls, working with horses, etc.) to reduce the boarding fees... talk directly with the ranch owner. Another option is to look at other boarding options, maybe a farm a little further in the rural area will give you more to choose from.

In addition to working on the farm, consider letting your horse be loaned out when you're not riding. I'm not saying this is a sure thing or even that you really want to, but it might be worth considering. Talk with the owner of the farm. Good luck!

Ask the barn owner if you would be able to work off part of the price of baord if you mucked stalls or did chores around the barn.
I know many people who work off the price of the board by helping out around the barn.
Good luck.

Alot of places give you reduced rates if you do alot of the care and feeding and stall care yourself. Just ask. Or even help with other horses they are boarding? Good luck

check into work at the stables...also check into seeing if it is less if you don't have to have a stall during the summer or something along those lines. when i boarded my horse, i only paid half of those with stalls because i kept her on pasture (that's what she was used to anyways) and then they actually put her in the stalls when i let them use her for lessons because of how gentle she was.

That is an expensive borad. Mine is only 155 and in includes food and cleanign twice daily. try offering to work at the ranch for cheaper board. offer to clean your own stall. and buy your own feed.
