Should I read the books?

I LOVE these books and I recently received the entire collection as a gift, they are about good and evil in this world some believe it is about GOD and the devil and I think that they just might be right, I think that they are trying to teach the younger generation about Christianity which I think is a VERY good idea because they can no longer teach that in public schools nor can they say the pledge of allegance to the flag of America because it says "one nation under GOD" I think that is sad so I am thankful that Hollywood is stepping in in a way and doing it in a way that kids will be not only entertained but learn something as well, I work at a fast food place where we sold the Narnia toys when the movie was in theathers and I bought the toys (the Lion and the whitch witch) and gave them to a four year old who had not even seen it yet and asked me if they represented GOD and the devil I was very surprised and very happy to know that someone of this age knew about it so when the movie came out on DVD I of course bought it for him. I am also glad that they are going to do all 7 books on the big screen and I am planning on going to see all of them. C.S. Lewis did a wonderful job on these books. I loved these books as a child and will again enjoy them as an adult.

Very good allegory. The Chronicles start out with a telling of the Christ story in a way that humanizes the battle of good and evil. The land of Narnia is a crucial place in the armageddon battle that takes place. I'm not sure that our view of the spiritual warfare gives the earth and its inhabitants such a meaningful role.

There are keen insights into the nature of our struggle with evil. The Silver Chair is one of my favorite. The Harry Potter books are somewhat reminiscent. I think CS Lewis was trying to get us to think about the work of God on this planet in terms that you don't get in the Common Book of Prayer. Insights can be gained when the landscape is not totally familiar.

They are a fun book to read, but there is an underlying Christian message. Don't be scared away from the book because of its religious meaning, its a fun book to read even if you are not someone looking for religious views. But, if you are interested, please ask someone for more information so that they can help you understand the meaning of what C.S. Lewis wanted to share with the world. And the answer above mine is completely incorrect, there are 7 books total.

They are entertaining fantasy books with a Christian flavor to them, and a strong moral message. (Hey, the author was a Christian; you can't expect him to be neutral!)

Another series that is very good is Madeleine L'Engle's time trilogy, A wind in the door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet and ... I forget the third one, I read them so long ago. I'm going to dig them out and read them again, now. They won the Newberry Award.

Lewis' Perelandra trilogy is also good. Drier and slower than LOTR, set Venus, Mars and Earth.

enjoy!

One of the all time great children's stories in a trilogy, I read them to my kid before Harry Potter came out and she liked the Chronicles better.

Oh yes, a fantastic series. Read all of them. It's basically about 4 kids that go through a closet and wind up in a fantasy world.

I read them when I was a kid and I dug 'em. I read them again in my early twenties and liked them just as much.

Some say that there is an allegory for Christianity written into the works.

I say enjoy them as the works of fantasy they are. No hidden messages, you won't be brainwashed!

Now, excuse me -- I must be off to worship in my wardrobe.

Great series, every single book. I've read them twice already, and I'm considering reading them again this summer. I'm 20, and they are still entertaining and brilliant.
