#Develop, a.k.a. SharpDevelop, is a good free IDE for C# and VB.NET. From a practical experience standpoint, it is more professionally beneficial to program in C# than in VB.NET because C# has syntax that is more similar to that of Java. The more you get used to C# and Java, the more programming opportunities will be available to you.
