Well, it is not always true, but for many people, study abroad could be better than where you are right now because it gives you new opportunities to learn and live your life. For example, let us say someone who came from Africa to the United States. As you know, Africa is the poorest continent in the world. And, this guy came to the US--is overally much better than Africa--to study in college.
He will learn better education in better school system. Also, rich countries have higher degree of education and many competitive students all around the world. Thus, as he studies and competes with these people, he will automatically become a better person than in Africa. In addition, because he has lived in different places, he will get wiser and see things differently like he sees the whole world now...different perspective of your life.....

Study abroad is a great program. My good friend studied for a semester at Oxford, and she loved it. She was able to adapt to a new culture, meet new people, and get away from some of the stresses of what is expected. She loved that she was able to get away from the image of the "girl who studies all the time" and got to have fun with new people. She learned the history of the buildings and city, and now she wants to move there when she graduates.

If you are studying a foreign language... Yes, studying abroad is much better. I went to Mexico to study abroad for an entire quarter, a program sponsored by my university and it is the best way to learn a new language and you get to see other cultures.

I think that study abroad gives a person a perspective of life that cannot be learned in the traditional classroom. To me, diversity of viewpoints born of different individual collective experiences enhanced a more well-rounded education for the entire class. It can also open up jobs for you, put you in contention for scholarships, etc. It really is a cross-cultural learning experience I would recommend. One thing is that you must have tough skin to up and move to a new county. If you are educated, outgoing, willing to learn, then you can do alright. Good Luck

Lots of foreign students come to the United States to study, get their degree and go home. Lot of American students go abroad, get their degree and come home.
Both sides of the Atlantic have good schools. I think this is just a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the pond. Distance makes it seem more exotic and attractive, etc.
