Don't just start pushing! That can cause serious problems with your placenta. Your best bet is to:
•start drinking red raspberry leaf tea (it helps strengthen the uterus and get ready for delivery)
•walking will help get your body get ready vs. rest which might delay labor
•nipple stimulation can start contractions ( for example: sucking by another person or a pump)
•Intercourse can be the biggest help since semen can soften the cervix, and orgasms can start contractions.
Even if contractions stop, every one of them will get the baby a little bit lower and open the cervix a little bit more. But for gods sake, don’t push!

Do NOT just try to push her out. That will not start contractions.
The blood you had could have been many things, including your mucous plug coming out among other things.
It's good you went to the ER and got checked out. Being that they sent you home means that you were not in any danger, nor the baby.
You can try the nipple stimulation and the walking. I'm not too sure with the acupressure. There is not a whole lot more you can do to bring on your contractions safely. The baby will come when it's good and ready.
There was a saying that once you loose your mucous plug you usually give birth within a week, but it's not always the truth.
Just try to relax and don't rush it. It will happen before you know it. Enjoy these last few days or weeks that you have with your baby all alone. Once it's born, you'll be sharing it with everyone...and it will be a lot harder to take care of! LOL
Never be afraid to call your doc for any questions you have. As I said above, you did great to go and get it checked out. You doc is there for just this reason and it's what you are paying him/her for. They have heard it all so don't think it's a stupid question (I even called the hospital and asked for Labor and Delivery when ti was about 2am because I didn't want to wake my doctor if I didn't have too and I figured they were up anyway working. They were very nice and answered my question...just FYI).
Good luck!

I agree with ncmommy. I have seen 4 births in my lifetime. Do you have a certain doctor that you go to? If so, you need to check with him. I have never heard of that much bleeding during a pregnancy. A couple weeks before labor, you should notice a slight bloody discharge, but if it's heavy like what you're having, then I would get it checked out.

If you continue to bleed I would go back to the ER or make a follow up with your doctor. Your doctor knows you and the baby by now.
Good Luck

Do not go to the ER after 20 weeks, you go to the Labor and Delivery at your hospital...so please go back before you put your baby and self at risk. Do not try to push the baby out...go to L&D where professionals can help you.

Please get another opinion, you don't owe this doctor anything. He thinks if he pats you on the head and says everything is OK, you'll be a good little girl and go home .
Please get another obgyn.
