There were no classic rock bands in late 50's, the terms of rock even were not existed yet, until early 60's. Though my favourite musician in early and mid 60's are Bob Dylan, the Yardbirds, Cream, Small Faces, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Velvet Underground, etc.

The Beatles are great and a huge inspiration and influence to many groups, but my personal favorite is Led Zeppelin. ^_^

The beatles don't date back to the 50's; we never heard a peep out of them till 1963.
In fact...NONE of the artists mentioned here by others are from the 50s either...!
...Except Johnny Cash; the others are either 60s or 70s (the Who, B.B. & Holding Co., et al.)

I don't know that they go all the way back to the late 50's, but I do love The Who.
Johnny Cash, too, though he was never really a rocker.
BTW...Journey, Aerosmith, and Whitesnake do NOT date back to the 50's!!!
