I live in the U.S.A and I don't get BBC on my TV so I'm always a little behind. I just got to see the Christopher Eccelson series on DVD. I used to watch the "Classic Series" on Public TV as a kid in the 80's. I'm torn between whether I like the older shows or the new series better. The new shows have way better effects and are great in their own right. I miss aspects of the old shows though like K-9 and the more eccentric Doctors especially the 4th Doctor and the brilliantly funny writing by Douglas Adams in some of the shows. On the other hand, I like the 9th Doctor as well. He's really different from the previous ones and brings the show into the modern era without losing all of the things that make the Doctor a unique character in TV Sci Fi. What do those of you who have seen "classic" as well as new shows think?

Old series - some bits of brilliance and a great reason for a young geek to stay up on a Friday night, watching a whole 90 minute plus adventure.

New series - a whole lot of brilliance that even my wife and kids like, who honestly want nothing to do with the old series. The overall arc of 2005 was perfect, too.

I loved the classic series, cheese and wobbly sets and all. I haven't been thrilled with every aspect of the new series, but I think overall they've done an excellent job of staying true to the spirit of the old series.
I was very hesitant to get my hopes up over the new series before I saw it, but I've been very happy with it so far. Christopher Eccleston really grew on me, and I was sorry to see him go so soon. Still, I'm very much looking forward to season 2!
I'm not sure the new series will ever be the beloved classic that the old one was, but it's been fun to watch, and it has satisfied me as a fan.

I think they've done a great job bringing the show into the 21st century. Of course there's going to be people who prefer the old series to the new one. I dont like the fact a story is only two episodes maximum, but then I realise that most of the original stories were only about 4 25-minute episodes, I suppose everything moves so much faster.

I wasn't that big into the classic shows, but I'm really starting to get into the new series. I've been watching it on the SciFi channel lately, and am really enjoying it.

The Classic was so cheesy, but I loved it! This new series is also cheesy, but not in a good way. The only new Dr. Who that I like is the skit that was done for Comic Relief with Rowan Atkinson (9th Dr.), Hugh Grant (12th Dr.), Joanna Lumley (13th Dr.) and Jonathan Pryce (17th Master). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212887/
