Well, you know the two sayings. The first, everyone else has said: practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect.

The second I heard from my piano teacher: perfect practice makes perfect. Even if you memorize the keyboard and can hunt in a tenth of a second before you peck, you're still hunting and pecking. I was in a typing class some years ago where I was just using my index fingers. Because I knew the keyboard and had experience typing, I was faster than the rest of the class - but the teacher made me learn to use the rest of my fingers and use the "home row" properly. If I hadn't listened to her, my typing speed never would've improved from then, and anyone who completed the course would've typed faster than I.

So the moral of the story: learn the keyboard. You should be able to type without looking, and you should easily be able to write the keyboard on a piece of paper. Then learn the home row, and find some typing lessons (there are free ones on the web) and consciously try to use the proper finger positions - even if it slows you down for now. Use the lessons to learn positioning, not to improve speed. Once you have your positioning correct and you find that you're using it elsewhere, drill for speed. Use the lessons if you have them, or just practice on your own. IM is a very good system to practice because it requires speed. Firefox's "find as you type" feature is good practice in copying text from a web page and typing it accurately - see the picture http://www.techevangelists.com/archives/images/firefox_find_as_you_type.png. That search box will let you type paragraphs and keep going to the next. (There are a lot of other good reasons to get Firefox if you haven't already. :-) Every time you type, practice typing first accurately, then in the correct form, then quickly, and you'll improve.

It's what I did, and I'm at 100 wpm when copying (slower when I write, because at 100 wpm I type faster than I can phrase sentences).

To be honest the best way to type with out looking at the keyboard is just keep practicting certain phases that u would get out of a typing book. I did in school and have no problem typing 1st make sure ur fingers are on the home keys left hand ASDF right hand JKL; right hand thumb rest above the space bar. that way u can reach any key. so Ur finger on a should reach q and z . so on etc. and always bring Ur fingers back to the home keys. just keep practising asdfjkl; over and over again. there is little rhymes u can practise to. just print off a page from the Internet cause software wont make a difference all u can do is practice. hope u can follow this gobbledygook ha. good luck

Have someone you know who can type fast tutor you. If you don't know anyone, then you'll have to go to a school to learn. NO ONE CAN BECOME A FAST TYPIST IN TWO WEEKS. You might become adequet in two weeks, but speed comes with practice, and practice takes means investing a lot of time into the project.

Start typing now, and all day long tomorrow, and day after.
I was typing 30 words a minute, one day I type for 6 hours straight, then the next day I was typing 50 words a minute, thought that was 32 years ago.

Practice, practice, practice. There are some programs out there, but I taught myself by typing everything and learning where the keys are automatically. But you've got to keep practicing.

Go to this link to see how many words per minute you type, then keep tryin over and over to see if you improve. Then maybe you can look into a class or learn from the website.

Practise. Type e-mails, stories, letter, random stuff, go into chat room and type. The only way I learnt how to type fast was by practising.

Their are many free online tutorials out there. But in the end, it's just practice, practice, practice.
