Question based on the fact the legals and illegals from practically all other parts of the planet try to get into these parts. Personally I do not feel I owe any of them anything for actions taken by my forebears. Sins of the fathers.....? Rubbish!

I disagree and would suggest that some of the major S E Asian cities are also excellent places to live. Singapore especially comes to mind.

I have only lived in north america and have visited much of western and eastern europe and it all depends. I think it matters more how much money you make any where you live. Personally I would like to live in eastern europe, people there are great and seem to be happier than the average person in the usa. They have a lot more fun with life. The one thing that the usa does provide that other places don't is the chance to better yourself, there is a lot more opportunity to get ahead here or at least to change your circumstances if you desire. With education and hard work anyone can make their life better. This is true in other places but there are fewer opportunities for this. Western nations have fairly stable governments and that is the biggest reason.

Where is Australasia?
Any sane person would want to live/work in a place where they can have the best life for theirselves and children. America/Canada are two of the best places of course, and they allow imigrants (at least for now) For Europe, I would have to choose England, Iceland, Norway, Germany in that order. Would not want to live in France, even though I speak a bit of it. On the Asian side of the world, for language ease, Australia would be good, but I would like to live and work in Japan. One reason you do not see immigration to Japan is pretty simple. They don't allow much of it. You cannot own a home if you are not Japanese. After those two, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in that part of the world.

Hondurans try to get into Costa Rica
Guatemalans try to get into Mexico
East Germans tried for years to get into west germany.
North Koreans to South Korea

The list goes on and on. Many countries have struggled with political instability, wars, coups, dictators, etc and the people are in a difficult circumstance through no fault of their own. I praise them for taking the courage and initiative to better their lives.

I've talked to Africans who's families have been killed and they've been driven out of their countries all while praising god and explaining how merciful he is to have saved them.

In the USA it's more probable that a first generation immigrant will become a millionaire than someone born in the USA.

Tell me this....What would you do had you been born in Nazi germany (western europe), spain, or Italy and lived durring WWII?? Would you have turned the tide of the war or tried to get out???

Perhaps we don't owe them anything, but we must also admit that we probably don't deserve (by our own merits alone) all that we have and enjoy. Some of us won the lottery by being born in the countries we were born in. Others were not so fortunate.

BTW, Eastern Europe is a treat. I love Greece and Turkey. Latin america is paradise. My favorite humans on the planet earth are the Jordanians. Costa Rica has very few of the problems that we complain about on a daily basis. Have you considered getting out more???

Disagree. Have you ever travelled to some of those other places? There are so many beautiful palces out there. Hopefully we won't spoil them. Not to get too fluffy about it though as there's work that needs doing. Still there's also a lot wrong in many of the western countries too. Just take a walk through some inner-city neighbourhoods. You're probably safer in the east.

Fetid, stinking bullshit. Sorry, but it is.

Most of the legals and illegals who head for the rich world don't have so much of a ball as you might think, and many simply can't make it back.

But more to the point - last time I checked, all the countries with big refugee populations were desperately poor themselves. The vast, vast majority of people fleeing trouble cross ONE border only. I think the biggest population is actually in Iran (all Afghans) though that might have changed. But think of Darfur: can you imagine what life is like if you have to run to Chad to make it better?

Time to open your eyes and look around.

i otally disagree. ok i may have only lived and seen western europe, but who's to say there arent bigger and better things else where? just because we are getting immigrants from certain parts of the world, deos not mean that there arent other places worth living in. people come to the western countries because they are still under the impression of great wealth for all. ok smoe make, fair enough, but for the majority, it's just like us, slave away for enough to get by on.

I thought average YA users were mature persons who had benefited from some formal education, travelled a bit and seen the world and were thus capable of lucid and rational thinking.
