I think they will see the rise of an new world order, of China as a threat and try to stop it by fair means or foul and knowing the yanks it will be FOUL...
I am not a communist just live here and it's not as bad as you think... you have no idea what it;s like till you have lived it... sure it has it's bad points but the point is it is not a transitory thing every 4 years or 8 you get a new president every 5 in England...here it goes on for years with the same leadrship... I believe that your premise is a bit loose. First, while it is true that the US is the only nation to use atomic weapons--I don't believe that they were used "in anger". They were used strategically--and it's obvious that they are not something that are used capriciously (e.g. even during the Cuban missile crisis). I doubt, too that if America goes through an economic decline that it will cause civil unrest to the point that America will utilize WMD on others. (How outrageous!) I do think that if Americans do go through economic hardship, they will tend to see it as a challenge to develop better technology to improve the world, not destroy it. (Do you recall the oil crisis in the early 70's--instead of buying SUV's, people demanded from Detroit more fuel efficient cars and we looked for alternate fuels (solar, wind etc.)

NO NOT AT ALL! They hold the key to its destruction.
They don't even recognise that global warming is even an issue or that it is a man made phenomenon! No one knows the severity of the warming problem, but we may find out later this year all being well if the British research is finished on time.
The only way the u.s.a is beneficial is for space travel, domination can be a good thing but if they get some seriuos competition and start using nukes again - then we may have to say goodbye to the world.

In which case America holds a threat not a key. "Out produce them and reap the whirlwind"...I don't think America will starve anytime soon, but you do remember that Sioux saying, roughly "Only after the buffallo has been caught, the last tree cut down and the last river poisoned will you find that money cannot be eaten" Essentially, if the USA does suffer some economic catastrophe, they'll find out these promisary notes are only worth the paper they are written on, and will have to make a choice between starving and being rich or poor and healthy..so the war wouldn't be a world war, it would be a civil one, a war fought on every city, in every block, in every home.

I think this is ridiculous! When the U.S. used the bomb on Japan, it didn't quite know the long-term ramifications of it. Truman decided that saving one million American servicemen's lives was important. He was right! As a person who lost someone in the war, I know just how important it was. I sincerely doubt that the U.S. would ever use an atomic bomb again. What we really have to worry about are the nuts already in power in Iran and North Korea. They either don't know the ramifications or they don't care.

everything in the states is over the top excessive. there cars homes, waist lines. Eggo's, lies(G Bush) elvis, food, they could not rule over as many countries as England did but theft and murder in name of king/queen and country is not acceptable. no country should claim such a burden.hence the UN
If the US did not have or use the H boom. No one else would need to develop protection against the boom. America's use or the H/boom was a stupid cowardly act executed out of fear, little thought or knowledge of there act the last us war is proof that the us cant be trusted with such a responsibility personal gain cloud the visions of the most humble of people, us-ers are not humble
vulgar spings to mind

How egotistic can you be! And people wonder why other nations hate America. Hmm.
Sure, U. S. A. also holds the key for the destruction of humanity. Of all their international decisions lately, very few of them have been smart. Most of them have done more harm then good.
Oh yea, most of the world is becoming independent of the US. For that matter, the US is becoming more dependent on the rest of the world. US has no oil, no money, no vaccines, no weapons. What? You actually think US gets all of their uranium from themselves? Dream on.

I would think that a superpower is not by definition a threat to the survival/prosperity of the human race. America could use her leverage to contribute a lot to global peace, stability and affluence, drawing on the finer aspects of her history and political life. As a first step she will have to get rid of the internal oligarchy which is behind much suffering in the world, driven by this insatiable appetite for money and power.

USA does not hold the key to the survival of humanity at all, as much as they would like to think. you are right to go back to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, because that is when they told the world how truly psychotic they can be, hence many countries aound the world trembled in fear, and have always tried to keep in good stead with them. but now that fear should have gone, because the US government should have realised by now that no one in the world would tolerate anothe atom bomb incident, if one happened then everyone would turn on whomever launched it.
as to civil unrest in the USA, we can only hope. and same goes for the UK really, the people now fear their governments because they are inciting the hatred of so many other nations who could turn around and attack us its untrue. governments should fear the people, not the other way around! (anarchist rant over:p)

No, the U.S.A. does not hold the key to the survival of humanity. It just holds the whip hand, at the moment. (and it likes to use it, to maintain it's lifestyle) I believe China WILL, in time, be more powerful than the U.S. Be some squabbles then, over the worlds resources. Whether man will "end it all for humanity" , who knows. Certainly the supposedly cleverest creature on this earth,.......is stupid enough to do it.
