If you're like me and you find Microsoft's "helpful" highlighting (a word at a time, but refuses to stop in the middle of a word) here's a tip:
Put your mouse at the beginning of what you want to delete, hold down the shift key and click the end.
You can also use the arrow keys and the shift key together to go letter by letter.
Shift, control and arrow keys jump words instead of letters.
Most importantly of all: breathe.
And check the program's preferences, it may be able to disable the "smart highlighting".

NEXT TO THE =+ KEY IS A DELETE KEY.
PUT THE BLINKING LINE AT THE END OF THE SENTENCE YOU WANT TO DELETE, AND MAKE THE LETTERS VANISH LETTER BY LETTER.
