How much do they net per gallon (after their cost including local, state, and federal taxes). Of course it would differ depending on location, but I'm just looking for a general idea.

it is very low. Often the owner makes $ on car repairs & maintenance and breaks even serving fuel. Many of the gas bar-convenience store centrea break even on the gas sales and make modest $ on the store sales. Get a lawyer to carefully check any gas company franchise contracts that they shove at you to sign. You do not want to get hooked up in a substantially slavery agreement for 2 or 3 years..
Good luck.

The gas station itself usually makes a few cents off each gallon. Their much higher profit business is the convenience store or the mechanic, if it's a larger station.
