my girlfriend and i are thinking of travelling from the uk to the dordogne in france, via train, tunnel and train again. does anyone have any advice for canoeing on the dordogne, sights that we should see or places to avoid. thanks

YEAHHH!!!!! but I did it when I was a kid so no contacts, sorry. The Dordogne is FANTASTIC for canoeing. Only the Canadian lakes can beat it. Or perhaps Finland, but I haven't been there yet...

PS the caves. DOUBLE YEAHHH!!!

Yes, I visited the area around Sarlat and found it to be lovely. Most of the towns on the river have canoe hire facilities...you set of down river and they pick you up at an arranged place and time, then minibus you back. Excellent! Visit the caves for the prehistoric drawings and other caves for underground rock formations, and the local 'tourist' villages.

I recommend canoing on the Dronne river, near the city of Brantôme. I've done it before, it was great.
