There really isn't one sure fire way to get rid of acne that works for everybody. If there were, then do you think anybody would really have it? And the exact cause of your acne has a great deal to do with how you treat it.
I have tried just about every trick and product out there, and I can tell you what has worked for me personally.
The first tip i'd give you is to not over wash your face. Belive it or not, even if you tend to have oily skin, it is a bad idea to wash with super harsh soaps that dry out your skin. This is bad for two reasons. First the dead skin cells will actualy clog your pores, and become pimples. The second reason you shouldn't do this is because generally ppl with acne tend to have oily skin, so when you dry it out, your face tries to create more oil to compensate, so it can make your face 2-3 times MORE oily. Then that will cause more dead skin, and other bad stuff to get trapped in your pores and cause pimples.
Getting rid of oil can be tricky though. The best thing i've found, especially if you have more sensitive skin is to use an oil blotting sheet. Many companies make them, and they contain no medicine or anything, all they do is take the oil off your face. There small too, so you can carry them in your pocket, and use them several times a day. I don't know if your a guy or girl, but if your a girl (or a guy) and you wear makeup, you can even use these while you have makeup on, because all they do is blot up the oily.
Now I know this next bit of advice may sound a bit weird, but it really does work, especially if you have acne near your hair. Try using a dandruff shampoo, even if you don't actualy have dandruff. I read this in a magazine somewhere, and have been doing it for about a year, and have seen a dramatic difference in my skin. And dandruff shampoo really isn't all that gross, they have some really good ones out there that smell just like regular shampoo, if your worried your hair will have a mediciny smell.
Personally for me, I don't have too much trouble with sensitive skin, and really, overwashing your face, as I stated before isn't very good for your skin. so what I do is wash my face once a day, generally in the morning when I wake up. Then throughout the day I use an astringent. Personally I can use it many times a day without too much of a problem. If I do wear makeup though, I will wash it off with soap and water. I also mosturize my skin. I tend to get dry on my cheeks, so I found a really good water based moisturizer, and I first rub it into my cheeks, then if there is any excess I rub it over the rest of my face.
I would also suggest looking into an over the counter chemical peel. The one I use is by loreal. It really helps to make your skin nice and smooth, gets rid of acne, and gets rid of any scars you may have. You have to be careful though, and when you use it be sure to wear sun screen.
Finally, I would suggest drinking more water. Water is really good for you in many ways, but as far as your face is concerned, it helps to filter out any impurities. And it also keeps your face soft and healthy without making it oily.
Though I know not every product works for everybody, here are the ones I use:
Zapzit zit cream
neutrogena foaming face wash, and I also use neutrogena black head exflolating face wash
Biore oil free moisturizer
Freeman cracking face mask
sea breeze astringent
Loreal adult acne facial peel

I HAVE THE ANSWER TO ACNE!
I have a teen aged brother and me who have struggled with Acne for years...we tried many things, including Proactive and prescription medicines as well. Then, we found the solution.
Please don't shrug it off because this can help you a lot.
I was searching through the Internet and found www.acne.org. The site is owned by a guy named Dan. Dan, struggled with acne as well. He read medical books and tried many things on the market. Then, he found the way. BENZYL PEROXIDE! Now, I bet you have used it many times before but it hasn't done much right? Well, the reason is because everything on the market is 5% or 10% Benxyl Peroxide. These irritate your skin which causes MORE acne! (Touching it irritates it as well which causes more acne.) There is one thing on the market that has non irritating Benzyl Peroxide....2.5% Benzyl Peroxide. Netrogena on the Spot Acne Cream has 2.5. Nothing else on the market. You can get stuff on the Internet that have 2.5%! It is also on the site www.acne.org.
The regimen includes: First washing your face with a cleanser (suggested ones are on the site)
Then, drying and adding LARGE AMOUNTS or Benzyl Peroxide. In the beginning very little but you rank it up to 2 fingers after time.
Last, you moisturize, because the Benzyl Peroxide may dry up your skin. Suggested ones are on the website as well.
Go to www.acne.org and read about the clear skin regimen.
THIS MAN IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY...HE IS NOT SELLING ANYTHING!
He just wants to help. I have clear skin and so does Dan. There is also a forum where you can read more. The site teaches you how to pop a zit the right way and to find out other products that have work well.
I hope I Helped!
(My brother who is also a teen is clear as well. This regimen takes about 8 weeks to be completely clear but you will see gradually the acne go away. There is no cure for acne, so you have to do the regimen every day until acne goes away.)

I know, being a teen is rough sometimes! But you shouldn't give up! What I'm going to do it give you a bunch of recommendations. Now, these products and tips I'm going to give you are not pricey nor hard to keep up with so no worries. 1. Drink lots of water, and I mean lots! Water keeps skin hydrated and keep your skin clear. + also try drinking green tea ! 2. Exercise! Just trust me ;) 3. Don't eat or drink greasy/sugary things. At least keep it on the down low because those foods make your skin oily and break out easily and fast. Avoid pop, candy, fried foods and fast food. 5. Wash your face no more than 2 times a day. In the morning and before you go to bed. 6. Try wearing makeup no longer than 8 hours a day. 7. DON'T touch your face or pick on it. On your fingers and in your nails there are lots of germs and bacteria that may affect your face when touched. 8. When treating acne try more natural remedies at home. Don't go for the chemically filled products - they don't work well and dry out your skin. 9. Stress level must go down. Many people breakout because of stress. 10. Accept it and accept yourself! If you have a bit of acne, it wont be there forever and lots of people your age have it! You're not the only one ! Here are products that I use: I had some body breakouts and I used : BODY CLEAR® Body Wash Pink Grapefruit by Neutrogena and Neutrogena Body Clear Body Spray which worked really well. For my face I use : Clean and Clear advantage blackhead clearing astringent and tea tree skin clearing foaming cleanser which is from the Body Shop in Canada, so if you live in Canada your in luck if you want to get it. Otherwise, try getting something natural and/or oil-free. Exfoliating (you should do like 3 times a week) : Clean & Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub Mask (twice a week) : Honey and Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask from The Body Shop . Find a mask that will work for you ! All masks work pretty well. I like the one I used because it cleanses, polishes and moisturizes. For healing acne scars : I use vitamin E oil for it fades scars and promotes faster healing. *Hope this works for you! If it doesn't work the way you wished, consider visiting a dermatologist ! GOOD LUCK!

Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!
1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.
2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.
3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.
4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.
5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.
6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.

I had never had a problem with acne even as a teenager and then I became hypothyroid. I then at the age of 29 had acne worse than most teenagers. I tried many products and to tell you the truth the one that works best for me is the Walmart generic brand of Medicated Apricot Scrub. It has saved my face. :) I was shocked that it worked better than all the other acne treatments I tried. Good luck!

This is a home remedy my grandmother passed down to me,
in a bowl soak some rice and then drain the rice from water and use the water to put on your face like an astringent ,do this for 1 or 2 weeks every and your face will look like porcelain .Place it in the refrigerator. If you do not like the way this remedy sounds than use witch hazel, you can buy this at any drug store.

clean and clear, stuff like that. Stuff with 2% salicylic acid or 10% benzoyl peroxide, and it works very well for me (except around that time of the month, but nothing would). Also, something like Neutrogena cleanser that removes makeup (if you're a girl).
Cleanser then clean and clear/clearasil/anything with the acne medication above. Works like a charm.
