I am planning on building a ford flathead engine from a 42 to 58 mercury probaly the 99a model but I want to do dual 4-71 blowers(make a special mounting bracket) but am not sure of what size carburator to buy..i am planning on using two of the edelbrock thunder series..so anyone with any info on anything else about this motor that i should build on it please let me know you can email me at kmccann182003@yahoo.com

I got news for you Mercury went to Overhead valves in 1953. I owned a 54 Mercury and the Flathead was long gone.
In 1955 the FORD Flathead was dead.

Your gonna have problem finding a 58 Mercury or Ford Flathead they don't exist.

a single 3-71 blower is too much recommend one from a 3-53 please run a dry sump and really strong crank and rods, oh and a 780 c.f.m. is more than enough to get you done.
these engines always had circulation problems at the rear of the cyl. heads so please consider using Mercedes heater boost pumps 1 for each head.and then piped to the top of the radiator.
