It records stuff, but when I go to watch it, it plays the beginning of the show then just stops. And it does this every time? The screen goes blank. Any ideas what's going on?

I have a similar problem where the DVR turns off in the middle of watching a recorded program. But it doesn't happen every time. It just happens when it finishes recording another program. UGH.

In your case, something sounds fishy. Contact Comcast customer support or take your box back to the Comcast office and exchange it for a new one. That is cheaper than having a technician come out.

I too am waiting for the TiVo Series 3 to come out this fall. It won't be cheap, but after using a TiVo for 6 1/2 years, the Comcast DVR just doesn't live up to the TiVo in quality, ease of use, disk space, features, or ease of use.

I'm on my 3rd Comcast HD DVR for the same reason. I have found that if you unplug the unit and let it power down for about 30 minutes the problem goes away for a few days. Unplugging is better because if you just turn it off there is still power and activity in the unit. While this sounds like a heat issue I know I I've done everything to reduce heat with no luck. The reason I'm on my 3rd unit is that eventually I get fed up and get a new one, but the problem still comes back. This plus the lack of features on the unit has me praying everyday for TIVO to release the Series 3 units

Yeah call them... they'll do a bunch of non-working stuff over the phone with you and most likely conclude it isn't working...

Whatever you do insist that you not be liable for a service call. We are on our second DVR and it is "buggy" but generally works.

Comcast was an early adopter and some of the DVRs they have are real dogs.... by the way don't be surprised when a replacement unit they give you is "used"...

Add: Be careful unplugging these DVRs - I unplugged ours to re-boot it and it re-booted all the recordings into oblivion... boy did that suck. But because the thing was toast anyway there was no hope of ever watching them. I guess it lives up to its name: recorder - the playback must be an afterthought.

i've got Comcast DVR. i do no longer do no longer forget what I pay precisely, besides the undeniable fact that's approximately $25.00-ish a month, besides the undeniable fact that that includes 3 digital channel packs (no longer which comprise showtime), song maximum well known channels, and elementary television channels and the DVR service. I determine that it expenditures not greater, greater often than not much less, than if i offered the TiVo which could take 2 cable enjoying cards with the point to get the digital/pay channels that i could desire to manage to DVR.
